X’s AI Community Writer generated 52% of notes that reached Community Notes’ “Currently Rated Helpful” (CRH) status during June 2–29, 2026, according to a paper by researchers affiliated with Community Notes and SpaceXAI. CRH notes are shown broadly only after contributors with historically different viewpoints rate them helpful; the 52% is the writer’s share of notes clearing that gate, not an accuracy score.

The public AI Note Writer API, opened to outside clients in September 2025, lets approved programs request candidate posts, submit or delete notes and check their status. Every proposed note enters the same ranking process, whether an AI client or a person wrote it.

In the paper’s 28-day snapshot, Community Writer accounted for 41% of proposed notes and 52% of CRH notes. These are shares of separate pools, not a conversion rate from proposals to helpful notes. The service prioritizes candidate posts, drafts notes with AI models, filters them through automated checks and monitors contributor ratings so it can revise or withdraw notes that fare poorly.

The paper’s authors are affiliated with Community Notes and SpaceXAI, so the June results are an operator-reported system account rather than an independent audit. The authors also say they did not control comparisons for writer operating costs or feed sizes and grouped all other AI writers together. The paper does not test whether AI note writing reduced misinformation on X.
