OpenAI starts adding interactive tools to ChatGPT answers

OpenAI said on Oct. 7 that it had begun a global rollout of GPT-6’s Intelligent UI, a ChatGPT feature that can add buttons, forms, charts and small interactive tools to answers.

The company says ChatGPT can use the format that best fits a question, such as a diagram for an explanation or a calculator, bill splitter or game built into the conversation. It can still answer with plain text when an interactive display would not help.

OpenAI says it built a library of reusable interface components and a compiler that assembles them while GPT-6 generates its response. That lets the interface appear progressively instead of waiting for the full answer. OpenAI says it trained the model to choose layouts and interactions, but adds that its design judgment still needs work; the launch provides no comparative results for interface quality.

The rollout began globally on Oct. 7 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts in ChatGPT’s Chat tab, with Free and Go access starting Oct. 8. Enterprise availability depends on administrator settings. OpenAI says the change applies to Chat, not the models used in Work or Codex.
