Microsoft Discovery adds an AI model for electromagnetic design checks

On Oct. 13, Arena Physica said Heaviside-1 is available as an integration in Microsoft Discovery, but its announcement does not say which accounts can use it. The model predicts electromagnetic fields from a 3D design so an engineering agent can estimate behavior before a full physics solver performs final validation.

The model estimates fields from 3D designs

A full-wave solver calculates how electric and magnetic fields behave through a design. Engineers use these calculations to check components such as chip packages, interconnects and antennas, but a single run can take hours or days, Arena says. That makes each design check slow.

Heaviside-1 takes a design's 3D geometry, material properties and signal excitation as input, then predicts the resulting electric and magnetic fields. Arena introduced the model in September and says it was trained on 250,000 three-dimensional simulations containing about 500 billion field samples. Arena also says it can return predictions in milliseconds. Those company-reported figures describe its training and performance claims; the integration announcement includes no independent evaluation of the combined workflow.

Discovery can use the estimate before a full solver

Arena says an agent in Microsoft Discovery can use Heaviside's prediction during a design workflow and switch to a conventional full-fidelity solver when a design needs final validation. The model is therefore presented as a fast estimate within a longer engineering loop, not as a replacement for final physics checks.

This is a new route to Heaviside-1, not a new model release. Engineers could already try it through Arena's beta Atlas Fields Studio. Microsoft Learn describes the Discovery cloud service as an Azure enterprise platform that requires an Azure subscription; the separate local Discovery app is in preview. Arena's announcement does not specify which Discovery accounts can use the integration or say that Heaviside is included in the local app.
