An expanded agreement will give Atlassian API access to OpenAI’s newer models, including GPT‑6 Astra and the GPT‑5.6 series. OpenAI says its models will power agents across Atlassian’s platform and in Rovo, Atlassian’s search, chat and agent suite; the Oct. 6 announcement gives no customer rollout date.
Rovo connects models to Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph, which links people, projects, documents and decisions. The announcement’s example has a product manager asking whether a launch is on track; Rovo draws on Jira tickets, Confluence pages and related discussions to identify blockers, missed milestones and decisions needing attention. This is a company-described workflow, not a reported customer test.
Atlassian’s published guidance says Rovo may use OpenAI’s GPT series alongside Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and Atlassian-hosted or open-source models. Atlassian also says Rovo follows the access permissions of connected apps. This is not Rovo’s first connection to OpenAI.
The companies say they are exploring Jira integrations that could assign work to AI agents, track progress, capture decisions and let teams review results. They describe a possible link to Atlassian’s DX developer-productivity platform to measure effects on engineering work. The announcement gives no customer eligibility or pricing details and reports no productivity results.
