Anthropic says Barclays uses its Claude models to classify, enrich and route about 120,000 incoming client emails a day in the bank’s Global Markets business. That figure is message volume, not a measure of accuracy or efficiency.
The system helps operations teams sort client inquiries, identify information needed to act and send each request to a handling route. Anthropic says the workflow reduces manual handling; the announcement gives no baseline, error rate or time-saved measure.
Anthropic also says Claude powers Barclays UK’s separate Colleague Knowledge Assistant, which uses retrieval-augmented generation: it brings relevant source material into an AI answer. The tool has been live since 2025, with more than 16,000 colleagues adopting it and over one million searches handled; those counts are distinct from Global Markets email volume.
Barclays expects half its developers to use Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding tool, by the end of 2026 and a majority of software engineers in 2027, according to the release. Those are adoption forecasts; the announcement provides no measured productivity results.
